Liʻulā Christensen

Litigation Director, ʻOhana Services

Liʻulā Christensen is the Litigation Director for NHLC’s ʻOhana Service team managing all staff on the team and supervising the litigation occurring within the programs scoped to this team, including family land matters, homestead rights, and family law.

Liʻulā has practiced at NHLC since 2011. Over the course of her career, she’s assisted with matters across the spectrum of NHLC’s practices areas. Li’ulā has particularly deep experience with quiet title defense matters for Hawaiian families involving kuleana lands and other kinds of fee simple properties. Liʻulā also regularly counsels families and represents them on matters involving Hawaiian Home Lands leaseholds.

Throughout law school and during her Post-JD Research Fellowship at Ka Huli Ao, Liʻulā researched the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act, the empowerment of Hawaiian Home Lands community associations, and the future of these lands in a post-Akaka Bill society. She graduated from the William S. Richardson School of Law with a Pacific Asian Legal Studies Certificate with a Specialty in Native Hawaiian Law. She previously worked for NHLC as a summer law clerk in 2007.
